Dr. Jeffrey A. Poland
Dr. Jeffrey Poland is a graduate of Bishop Walsh High School and Frostburg State University. He received his Doctor of Optometry degree from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in Philadelphia, PA. He received the Citation for Clinical Excellence from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry as well as the Bausch and Lomb Award for Excellence in Contact Lens Practice.
Dr. Jeff is a member of the American Optometric Association and past president of the Maryland Optometric Association and the Western Maryland Optometric Society. His areas of special professional interest include pediatric eye care and ocular disease diagnosis and management. Dr. Jeff resides in LaVale with his wife Lisa and is the father of two adult children and the very proud “Papa” of two wonderful little girls! Dr. Jeff’s favorite hobby is travel, and best-loved destinations have included Scandinavia, Scotland & Ireland, and Iceland.
Dr. John A. Manard
Dr. John Manard is a graduate of New Mexico State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics. He received his Doctor of Optometry degree from The Ohio State University College of Optometry. Dr. Manard underwent specialized training in management of ocular diseases and surgical co-management of cataract and LASIK patients. He was chosen as a recipient of the Ohio Optometric Association’s Student Loan Repayment Program Award, recognizing Dr. Manard as a doctor of optometry who is committed to treating underserved populations and ensuring they have access to lifetime eye care.
Dr. Manard provides comprehensive eye examinations to patients of all ages, as well as treatment and management of ocular disease conditions such as glaucoma, dry eye syndrome, and diabetic eye changes. He is especially interested in contact lens fitting and assessment, including more complicated cases. Dr. Manard is a member of the American and Maryland Optometric Associations. He is married to fellow optometrist Dr. Whitney Territo, and they reside in Bedford, PA. In his spare time, he enjoys running and hiking local trails.
Dr. KateLynn R. Bauer
Dr. KateLynn Bauer was born and raised in Schuylkill Haven, Pennsylvania. She received a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology at Coastal Carolina University, and then went on to earn her Doctor of Optometry Degree from The Ohio State University College of Optometry. Dr. Bauer graduated Cum Laude, and was a member of the Gold Key Optometric Society and the Beta Sigma Kappa Optometric Honor Society. While in optometry school, she spent time volunteering at community and school vision and eye wellness screenings and served on a medical mission trip to Jamaica. Her training included clinical rotations at the Salt Lake City Utah Veterans Affairs Hospital managing ocular disease, as well as a surgical center in Columbus, Ohio managing postoperative cataract and LASIK patients. Dr. Bauer provides comprehensive eye care to patients of all ages, as well as management of ocular disease including Dry Eye Syndrome, Diabetic Eye Disease, Glaucoma, and Macular Degeneration. Dr. Bauer is an active member of the American Optometric Association and Maryland Optometric Association.
When not in the clinic, Dr. Bauer enjoys spending time with her husband, Dr. Scott Bauer, a fellow optometrist, and their dog. Together they like to spend time outdoors and traveling to National Parks.

Please join us in wishing our colleague Dr. Sam all the best as she moves on to another opportunity away from the Cumberland area. A Cumberland native, Dr. Samantha Kessler attended Fort Hill High School and Frostburg State University. She graduated with her Bachelor of Science in Vision Science at Nova Southeastern University and her Doctor of Optometry degree from Nova Southeastern University College of Optometry with honors. Dr. Kessler was recognized as a Chancellor’s List and Dean’s List Honoree while attending Nova, and she was a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa Honor Society. She received clinical honors during her primary care, ocular disease, and cornea and contact lens rotations.
Her areas of professional interest include ocular disease, dry eye, pediatric care, and contact lens fittings. Dr. Kessler is a member of the American and Maryland Optometric Associations. In her free time, Dr. Kessler enjoys traveling and cooking, and she looks forward to enjoying the mountains of Western Maryland again by running, hiking, and spending time with family and friends.
